Tourism Businesses from across Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly were celebrating on 1stNovember at the largest ever celebration of Tourism Excellence, midst a stunning light show in Truro Cathedral.

After 7 months of assessing evidence and a rigorous 3-phase judging process, the winners of this year’s Cornwall Tourism Awards (#CTA18) have been announced.  Now in their 17th year, the awards saw 80 awards presented across 26 different categories, with new ones this year for Tourism Innovation and New Businesses.  The awards celebration was enhanced by a stimulating presentation from Executive Producer of Doc Martin, Mark Crowdy, who was in turn the recipient of a surprise Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award for the Doc Martin team and the show’s impact on Cornish Tourism.

It was the first time the Awards had been held in Truro Cathedral, with a record 398 guests attending what was an inspiring event, with high-tech lighting showing the Cathedral at its very best.

We were lucky enough to be in a position to sponsor the Touring, Camping and Caravanning Park of the Year category at the Awards this year, and what an honour it was! There is so much talent and drive in this sector of tourism in Cornwall and we are so proud to tell you that two out of the three finalists partner with us to power and manage their bookings.

Polmanter Touring Park clinched the Gold Award, Padstow Touring Park took Silver, and Little Winnick Touring Park secured Bronze. Huge congratulations to everyone and see you again next year!

Other top winners on the night included Railholiday, picking up the prestigious Winner of Winners trophy alongside three further trophies, whilst the new Tourism Innovation and New Business Golds were shared between the Cohort Hostel and Cornish Wine Tours.

Awards organiser Robin Barker welcomed all winners: “I’d like to congratulate you for having the courage to have a go, and put yourself through what is recognised as the country’s most rigorous tourism awards judging process.”

Speaking after the event Mark Warnes, Property and Portfolio Director at Headline sponsors Hoseasons, said: “Tonight is obviously about the winners, but the truth is every one of our finalists is in their own way a fantastic advert for what keeps this county at the forefront of the UK tourism industry. The pride and passion they have shown in their businesses over the last 12 months is why people continue to see Cornwall as one of Britain’s best holiday destinations and why holidaymakers come back year after year.”

Head of Visit Cornwall, Malcolm Bell, commented: “The awards shine the spotlight of excellence on some of our best and leading tourism operators in Cornwall. It is this excellence that makes Cornwall one of, if not the leading, UK holiday regions. It celebrates not only the businesses but also the team work from staff, Managers and owners as only team work can deliver excellence.”

The 26 award categories covered everything from surf schools, cafes and hotels to cottages, spas, holiday parks and camping and touring parks. Other Gold winners on the night included The Park, Cornwall, Newquay Activity Centre, The Sandy Duck B&B, Polmanter Touring Park, Carbis Bay Hotel and C-Bay Spa, Pentillie Castle and Talland Bay Hotel.

Erwlon Caravan and Camping Park Crowned Best in Carmarthenshire

Erwlon Caravan and Camping Park Crowned Best in Carmarthenshire

At the recent Carmarthenshire Tourism Awards, which were held at the Diplomat Hotel in Llanelli, Erwlon Caravan and Camping Park proudly took home the award for the Best Caravan, Camping and Glamping site of the Year. Based in the town of Llandovery, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, Erwlon is a 5 star family run site, offering visitors to the area a holiday experience in a beautiful countryside location.

The Carmarthenshire Tourism Awards, which are held every 2 years, showcase the best of the tourism and hospitality industry within the county and with hundreds of entries received, Erwlon are delighted to come away with the Gold award in their category.

Erwlon was established in 1950s as a diversification from the farm and has been run by the Rees family ever since. Priding themselves on offering visitors a wonderful base for their holiday in Carmarthenshire, on site dedicated family and adults only areas make it a great choice for a caravan or camping holiday.

The focus at Erwlon has always been about providing a family friendly feel. On site facilities include a comfortable shower and toilet block including family changing areas, super pitches (which include hard standing, your own water point and grey waste discharge plus of course an electric hook-up) a children’s play area, a dog walking area and Wi-Fi. And with a commitment to always improving facilities for visitors, in 2017 the team introduced a new camp kitchen and also 4 luxury glamping pods called Riverside Pods.

Riverside Pods are en-suite self-contained pods offering an alternative glamping accommodation for visitors, and set in a beautiful location along the river, in a great spot to relax and unwind. Each pod sleeps up to 4 people and offer all the facilities you would need for a comfortable and cosy holiday, including under floor heating which means all year round glamping.

Peter Rees owner of Erwlon Caravan and Camping Park said “We are delighted to have won the Gold award in the recent Carmarthenshire Tourism Awards. To be recognised for our quality of offering, facilities and customer service is so rewarding. It also makes it especially rewarding to have won the award in the year where we have expanded our offering and introduced our glamping pods to the site. This not only allows our regular guests to bring friends and family with them but also introduces Erwlon to new customers.”

Erwlon and Riverside Pods are open all year round and to find out more about the on-site facilities, availability and to book online head to www.erwlon.co.uk.

Proud sponsors of the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2018/19

Anytime Booking is proud to be sponsoring the Touring, Camping and Caravanning Park of the Year at this year’s Cornwall Tourism Awards. This category is for parks where the main provision is for touring caravans, motor homes and camping with few or no pitches occupied by caravan holiday homes or lodges.

This is an opportunity for campsites all around Cornwall to really think about what they do well, promote their achievements and be recognised by the tourism industry for their hard work. These parks should demonstrate exceptional customer service and offer an outstanding experience for visitors.

There are so many fantastic camping and touring sites around the county, including many of our own customers, and we encourage you all to enter! Create a buzz around your holiday business in Cornwall by entering the Awards and if you’re not already onboard, talk to us about ramping up your customer service with an easy to use online booking system!

The deadline for entering the awards is midnight on 22nd May for all categories except Customer Service Superstar and Tourism Events and Festivals which close on 22 August; in a change to previous years event organisers are asking businesses wishing to enter Events and Festivals to register now at awards@services4tourism.co.uk.

Entry is free and all entrants receive feedback.

The Awards launch follows just days after the announcement of the region’s success in the final event of the 2017/18 awards when 15 South West entrants were announced as finalists in the national VisitEngland awards.
